The Biotraining Hotel, which was adapted and expanded in the ‘eighties by the company founder Willi Dungl and is now a listed building, was to be given a general facelift and a visual “redesign”. At the same time, it was intended that the conversion should also result in functional improvements for both guests and staff. Two “additions” were intended to make the hotel more attractive. The access area through the inside courtyard was to be glazed over, and the main building with the Vitalcenter, located on the other side of the road, was to be connected by a connecting bridge on the first floor, although due to the short construction time it is intended that this is to be carried out in a second building phase. In the first eight-week construction phase, the glazed winter garden was established in the yard of the U-shaped 100-room, four-star establishment, which was created in different construction phases (1900, 1920, and 1980). Due to the new arrangement of the access area, with lobby, restaurant, and Reception, the entrance, which had formerly been placed in the depth of the yard, was relocated much further forwards. The building axes of all three building parts were merged into the load-bearing structure, inclined inwards in the shape of a pulpit, and another nodal point was created by a slim, almost support-free steel/glass structure. During the night in particular, the lighting causes the Reception, lobby area, and restaurant to become transparent and visually striking to the outside. The winter garden itself is divided in functional terms into three readily overviewed areas: To the left of the centrally-located entrance is the restaurant extension, which during the day and in the early afternoon offers a different atmosphere for breakfast and coffee to the historic Bocaccio Hall. To the right of the entrance axis is the waiting and lobby area, and in front of this the newly-designed Reception, from which the Tea Bar, the Shop, and the Wellness Area in the existing building complex are reached. Thanks to a spatial rearrangement of the Wellness Area located in the basement, it was possible both to improve internal procedures as well as providing a new visual concept for the area which gives the impression to the guest that this is a new creation.
